Biyouana, the Algerian singer and actress, has passed away, leaving a legacy that married two cultures.

Born Baya Bouzar 13 September 1952 in Belcourt, Algiers (now Belouizdad) during the war of liberation against France, the actress, by the age of 17 had begun performing in numerous Cabaret shows, landing at the famed Copacabana at the tender age of 19. She landed her first acting appearance as a singer in director Mustapha Badie’s Soap Opera, La Grande Maison (1973).
The comedic actress maintained a series of acting gigs throughout the decades and released her first album, Raid Zone in 2001. The album saw great success prompting the release of her second album Blonde dans la casbah which combined a Franco-Algerien repertoire. The album's single, Une blonde platine dans la Casbah, dedicated to her mother, hit number 1 on music charts in multiple countries.

The legend passed away on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 at the Beni Messous hospital in Algiers, Algeria at the age of 73.
Many celebs took to social media to share their condolences and praise of the iconic figure including actress, Sabrina Ouazani, who recounted her “generosity” and “courage” saying, “The world is losing a heart like I’ve never seen. You are one of the rare beings that mark a life forever.” Going on to note how she carried “freedom inside of her” and “followed her own path”. Biyouana is survived by her husband and four children.
